Re: BUG REPORT: Website META Language 1.7.1 (05-06-1999)

Jan Ulrich Hasecke <juh@pironet.de> writes:

Many Unix programs depend on lines to be terminated with a newline.

make, for example, will ignore the last line if not terminated by
newline.

In the old times, I was told, this wasn't a problem, as all editors
(vi, etc) would write that newline automatically. Emacs, on the other
hand, as it is not really line-oriented, does not append it if you
don't type it.

BTW, in regards to your question about Makefiles:

	man make

gives a lot of information, though not terribly user friendly.

I am pretty sure there is a "animal book" about make. And there is a
texinfo document about GNU make.

Cheers,
Fritz
