Applying your own filter is really simple if you know Perl.

I don't understand your first question. What is the advantage of
calling tidy before htmlstrip? Anyway, it's impossible, so....
After html-clean, files are unreadable by humans, but smaller
(about 10-20% smaller with my tests).
