Don't worry ;-)
I was trying to explain why it is not so easy. Because of possible
prolog filters, input files are copied into /tmp before processing
and so input files do not reside at their attended location.

Hmmm, i consider that WML is actually designed to process files in
current directory only. There are situations where this is a severe
limitation, for instance it would be nice to use the VPATH feature of
GNU make.

It's why this patch has not been committed yet.

I am interested. My intentions are not pure, i just want to steal your
ideas and incorporate them into WML ;-)

Tomasz Węgrzanowski <maniek@beer.com> wrote a GPL replacement called
freetable. It will soon replace wwwtable in the WML distribution. You
can download it from
  http://www.debian.org/Packages/unstable/web/freetable.html
