I noticed today that those regexps match message ids, too, because
they have similar--if not the same syntax. Has anyone an idea how to
distinguish between email addresses and message ids using regexps?

(The next step would be to build regexps for usenet message ids, so
that they link to the appropriate message on the news server... ;-)

But I think that this is only a problem, if the <URL> tag is used in
some kind of mailing list archive to linkify all those URLs in the
mails.
