Anyone doing XML-style stuff?

First, I've been using Perl to parse files like
<database>
<name>narble</name>
<record>
<field3>stuff3</field3>
<field2>stuff2</field2>
<field1>stuff1</field1>
</record>
<record>
<field1>stuff4</field1>
<field2>stuff5</field2>
<field3>stuff6</field3>
</record>
<record>
<field3>stuff9</field3>
<field2>stuff8</field2>
<field1>stuff7</field1>
</record>
<record>
<field1>stuffa</field1>
<field2>stuffb</field2>
<field3>stuffc</field3>
</record>
</database>
and produce something like
<table>
<tr>
<td><b>field1</b></td>
<td><b>field2</b></td>
<td><b>field3</b></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>stuff1</td>
<td>stuff2</td>
<td>stuff3</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>stuff4</td>
<td>stuff5</td>
<td>stuff6</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>stuff7</td>
<td>stuff8</td>
<td>stuff9</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>stuffa</td>
<td>stuffb</td>
<td>stuffc</td>
</tr>
I'd like to do this in WML instead (simpler), but this means that I need to be
able to define <field1>, <field2> and <field3> to save their values, and the
<record> tag to dump the data in the right way. . . .
Has anyone been doing a lot of this? If so, what method has been the most
successful for you?
