our wmk/wml broke with perl (5.6.1) upgrade -- help!

[[[ I've sent the following almost a week ago, but never got any response;
Our Sendmail log showed the mail was delivered, etc...
Only today, I've looked again a bit more closely at
http://www.engelschall.com/sw/wml/news/list.html
and then found at the bottom of that page *after* the subscription
instructions

This should be marked much more dominantly;
or better, the mailing list software behind sw-wml@engelschall.com
should send me an answer telling me that my mail was rejected because I
was not subscribed...
Ok, now I *have* subscribed, and hence the following should go through

(as subject says). I have tried quite a few things, all unsuccessfully.
configure --prefix=....
make
make check
make install
all work fine. "make check" reports full success, but still
a simple "wmk" call in a directory where everything used to work, results in
/usr/local/app/wml/bin/wml -n -oLANG_VAR:einteilung.var '-o(ALL-LANG_*)+LANG_EN:einteilung.en.html' '-o(ALL-LANG_*)+LANG_DE:einteilung.de.html' einteilung.wml
